The Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) is looking for a Pikialarsorsuaq Advisor for the ICC Greenland Office in Nuuk.

Overview:

Are you passionate about promoting the rights of Indigenous peoples and for the protection of the Arctic environment, hunting and fishing rights, and Inuit Knowledge? Are you interested in building a bridge between governments, Inuit organizations, and Inuit communities? Then you might be ICC’s future Pikialasorsuaq Advisor.


With an office in Nuuk city center and as part of an international team across ICC’s offices in Greenland, Canada, and Alaska, we offer an exciting and meaningful workplace with a focus on bringing Inuit messages to the world.

Tasks:

As the Pikialasorsuaq Advisor at ICC, you will work closely with a small team of other Advisors  and report directly to the Executive Director, and will work on tasks such as:

a.     Providing secretarial services for the Pikialasorsuaq Joint Steering Committee and support the implementation of the Joint Steering Committee’s Terms of Reference

b.     Work with staff from ICC Canada, the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, and the Greenlandic and Canadian Governments on progressing the Pikialasorsuaq Initiative

c.     Organize online and in-person meetings of the Joint Steering Committee and the Pikialasorsuaq Meeting of the Parties.

d.     Working on reports and public communications to support ICC’s ongoing work in the Pikialasorsuaq area, and other areas of conservation interest in Kalaallit Nunaat

It will be an advantage if you have experience working in governance and policy, and have good understanding of hunting and fishing, Inuit Knowledge, and  general meeting organization. The work will primarily take place in  English, Danish, and Greenlandic, in order of expected use.

Profile:

We are looking for a motivated applicant holding a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a field of study related to governance, policy, or law, or in cultural heritage, protected areas, biology, or other natural science, and who has an interest in working on policy and management related to the Pikialasorsuaq area. If you are a recent graduate of Ilisimatusarfik or another educational institution and are looking for direct experience in Policy, marine affairs, and in managing a Secretariat, this is also positive.

Salary and Employment Conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are according to qualifications. This position is employed on an individual contract. Housing accommodation is not offered.

Duration of Employment:

ICC has received funding support from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation for the employment of an Pikialasorsuaq Advisor until mid 2029.

ICC is an ECOSOC accredited Indigenous Peoples’ Organization (IPO) that engages in numerous international negotiations and processes. ICC’s environmental work includes the protection of land and marine environments through engagement in international fora such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Central Arctic Ocean Fisheries Agreement (CAOFA), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
