Do you want to work in Nuuk in support of U.S. diplomacy all across Greenland? 

The U.S. Consulate in Nuuk, Greenland is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Political Assistant within the Political-Economic section. If you have experience and interest in helping build stronger ties between the United States and Greenland, this could be an ideal job for you.

Kindly note that this position is based out in Nuuk, Greenland but the vacancy announcement is administered by the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The work schedule for this position: Full Time, 40 hours per week. 

Some of your tasks include, among others: 

  • Providing advice, research, and reporting on the full range of Greenlandic political, economic, cultural and social issues, analyzing their impact on U.S. priorities and interests and predicting future trends

  • Establishing and cultivating high-level contacts across all sectors of Greenlandic society; assisting in identifying participants for academic, professional and private sector exchanges.

  • Supporting travel by U.S. officials and officers within Greenland and facilitates their relationships with Greenlandic officials and the public.

  • Providing translation and interpretation services to/from Greenlandic, Danish, and English as required.

You have a high degree of cultural sensitivity and:

  • For the full performance level: At least two years of prior work experience in Greenlandic or Danish politics, government, business, journalism, academia, legal practice, or related fields.

  • For the Trainee level: At least one year of prior work experience in Greenlandic or Danish politics, government, business, journalism, academia, legal practice, or related fields.

  • Thorough knowledge of Greenlandic political and economic life, including a detailed understanding of the relationships between leading families, political forces, and local communities.

  • A university degree in political science, business, journalism, history, law, is required.

  • Good working knowledge of English, Greenlandic and Danish at the speaking, reading and writing level.
