The U.S. Consulate in Nuuk, Greenland is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Political/Economic Assistant. You will provide advice, research and reporting on Greenlandic political, economic, cultural and social issues, and you will help U.S. officials build strong relationships with Greenlandic officials and the public. We are also offering the position at a trainee level for candidates who do not yet have the full experience required.
What You'll Do
Contacts: Develop and maintain high level contacts across the Greenlandic government, business community and civil society, including political parties, educational institutions, human rights groups and the press.
Research and reporting: Gather information from contacts and other sources. Write reports that analyze current events and predict future trends in politics, the economy, social issues, and law and order.
Media and translation: Monitor Greenlandic media and translate and interpret between Greenlandic, Danish and English, including for official U.S. visitors.
Visits and meetings: Organize trips and meetings for U.S. officials traveling to Greenland, brief them beforehand and go with them to meetings when requested.
Qualification Requirements
Education: University degree in political science, business, journalism, history or law
Experience: At least two years of work in Greenlandic or Danish politics, government, business, journalism, academia, legal practice or related fields. For the trainee level, you need at least one year.
Language: Good working knowledge of English, Danish and Greenlandic (speaking, reading and writing). We may test your language skills.
Job Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of Greenlandic political and economic life, including the leading political parties, towns and settlements, and key economic sectors
Skills: You take initiative and complete projects on time with minimal supervision. You have excellent interpersonal skills to build high level contacts and work well in a small team.
